How can I configure access settings in CWP7 to enable SSH key authentication instead of passwords

How do I set up SSH keys and access in CWP7?

Welcome to this informative article on setting up SSH keys and access in CWP7!

SSH keys provide a more secure way to access your server and authenticate yourself compared to traditional password-based authentication. With CWP7, you can easily configure and manage SSH keys for added convenience and security.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Log in to your CWP7 control panel.
  2. Once logged in, navigate to the “SSH Keys” section. Typically, you can find this under the “Security” or “SSH” tab.
  3. Within the “SSH Keys” section, click on the “Generate a New SSH Key” button.
  4. In the popup window, specify a name for your key. This name will help you identify the key later if you need to manage multiple keys.
  5. Next, choose the type of key you want to generate. The recommended key type is RSA.
  6. Set an optional passphrase for your key. While this adds an extra layer of security, it’s not essential.
  7. Click “Generate Key” to create your SSH key pair. The control panel will generate both a public key and a private key for you.
  8. Once the key is generated, you will see the public key displayed in the control panel. Copy the entire key starting from “ssh-rsa” and ending with your email address.
  9. Now, with the public key copied, it’s time to add it to your server. Open a terminal or SSH client and connect to your server.
  10. Once connected, navigate to the .ssh directory in your home directory. If it doesn’t exist, create it using the command “mkdir ~/.ssh”.
  11. In the .ssh directory, create or open the “authorized_keys” file using a text editor.
  12. Paste the previously copied public key into this file, and save it.
  13. Finally, ensure the correct permissions are set for the .ssh directory and the authorized_keys file. Generally, you should set the directory permission to 700 (drwx——) and the authorized_keys file permission to 600 (-rw——-).

That’s it! You have successfully set up SSH keys and access in CWP7. Now, you can securely authenticate your server using the private key associated with the generated SSH key pair.
